One of the most common questions asked is whether three estimates are required before submitting your insurance claim. More often than not the most likely answer is no. However is always best to double check your policy to be sure. Most insurance does not require three estimates. The option is completely up to you and your comfort level.
Let's review an example scenario and see why you may not need to go through the time and effort of getting three separate estimates.
Example Scenario: Insurance estimate $10,000
Roofing Estimate #1: $,9000
Roofing Estimate #2: $15,000
Roofing Estimate #3: I'll Do Whatever The Insurance Company Says
What do you do? Your first instinct would probably be to go for the cheapest, Roofer #1, but then you have to ask yourself, where are they cutting corners to save money? You could end up with a piecemeal project and less than the best materials.
Roofer #3 is agreeing to whatever the insurance adjuster has set - even if their professional opinion might differ.
Insurance adjusters are great - they have seen a lot of damage and have a pretty good idea of what they're looking at, but they are not professional roofers!
There is always a chance they have missed some smaller items, estimated low for other factors, etc.
Following this estimate to the letter could mean repairing some things but not others - resulting in further repairs down the road.
Now, let's talk about Roofer #2. They seem to know what they're doing, but their estimate is $5,000 over the insurance's! What does that mean?
Experienced contractors will have justifications for every item on their estimate, and will have a thorough understanding of the insurance process. When presented with the in-depth
estimate of Roofer #2, most insurance companies will agree to the new number - ensuring that you end up with a top-quality, safe repair that you can trust.
Roofer #2 is a trusted local contractor with experience, credentials, and great customer testimonials.
